In the same family for almost 200 years

The château de Bernières dates from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and has belonged to the same family for almost two hundred years. It served as a hospital during the First World War, then took in Canadian and British veterans after 1944. The part of the house let today was partly destroyed on 6 June 1944, in the bombardments that preceded the landings. It has been restored to sleep fifteen, without erasing the old stone. Your hosts are Jacques and Frédérique Hayaux du Tilly.

Juno Beach five minutes away

La Maison des Canadiens, the first house in France to be liberated on 6 June 1944, stands in the village. The Juno Beach Centre is 2 km away, Arromanches and its Mulberry harbour 15 km, the Caen Memorial 19 km and the Bayeux Tapestry 25 km. On foot from the house: the seafront and its D-Day archive trail, the church of Notre-Dame de la Nativité with the tallest spire on the Côte de Nacre at 67 metres, and the Marais du Platon, a 6-hectare nature reserve.
